ABOUT US

Company History
The genesis of the algaewheel® technology was a result of research by Mr. Christopher Limcaco, a professional engineer in the field of wastewater treatment and natural system engineering and design. Mr. Limcaco was inspired by nature's ability to develop the efficient cycles necessary to maintain aquatic life.  In 1996, after several years of studying the natural cycle of aquatic environments, Mr. Limcaco designed the first algaewheel to be used as an aquatic filtration and life support system. From there, the algaewheel technology has been developed for use in wastewater treatment, carbon capture, biofuels, and biomass for electricity generation. In its simplest form our product line is merely an algae production system that has the potential for multiple applications in multiple industries.

Mission
To provide reliable and cost efficient algae production systems that enable our customers to develop and apply algae-based technologies for clean water, clean air, and clean energy.

Vision
To integrate algae with visionary technologies in order to develop innovative systems that serve mankind in an environmentally responsible manner.

Management
Christopher A. Limcaco, Founder & CEO, B.S. Environmental Civil Engineering, Purdue University 1992, started Algaewheel, Inc. in 1998 after working in wastewater design and consulting for 7 years. Christopher developed the algaewheel in his home and has been working on its perfection for nearly fifteen years. During this time he has demonstrated both his commitment and management expertise by nurturing the company through its development stage using limited funds of his own and a limited group of small investors. Chris' intimate knowledge of the technical aspects of algaewheel, wastewater treatment, and ecology will be essential in the marketing and the continued development of Algaewheel's product line.  Algaewheel, now in its 10th year, has operated on its own revenues and owner equity without other funding since its inception.

Joel J. Johnston, VP of Operations, BS Natural Resources & Environmental Science, has worked in the environmental engineering and construction industry for over 20 years. Prior to joining Algaewheel, Joel was a partner in an Indianapolis-based environmental engineering firm. Much of Joel's time with Algaewheel has been spent by the side of Christopher Limcaco working to perfect the algaewheel technology. Joel has become an expert in algae based wastewater treatment and has been responsible for maintaining Algaewheel's original pilot system for over five years. He has also worked extensively to collaborate with companies developing biomass refining processes for algae. His formal education, environmental engineering experience, hands-on algae experience, and product development knowledge give him the necessary skills to direct the operations of Algaewheel, with primary emphasis on product development, wastewater treatment applications, and collaboration with complimentary technologies.

Ken Thieneman, VP of Construction, has sixteen years of construction experience, and was a Vice President for Bowen Engineering prior to starting his own specialty construction firm in 1999. Ken's philosophy of success is based on hard work and self-responsibility. Thieneman Construction has a wide range of expertise in environmental contracting, including mechanical systems, process equipment, concrete construction, and site work. Ken's management and hands on experience in the construction industry, particularly wastewater treatment, is invaluable in helping the company understand how its products and services can and will be integrated into a variety of environmental projects.

Mark A. Drewes, CFO & General Counsel, B.S. Accounting 1990, J.D. 1993 has served a variety of companies as CFO, General Counsel, and Vice President, giving him a broad background of management experience, and opportunities to create financial stability in differing environments and circumstances. Mark began his career at Ernst & Young, LLP in Indianapolis. After Ernst & Young Mark served as a tax manager for USA Group, and then in 1998 co-founded the Frontier Financial Companies. The Frontier Financial companies were a conglomerate of financial services companies, many of which were recognized in the top tier of fastest growing companies in Indiana. The Frontier companies were sold in 2004 to the largest accounting firm in France. Mark's internal experience at Frontier, as well as his experience as an advisor to several high-growth companies in various industries, makes him ideally suited to participate in executive management of Algaewheel, and specifically to direct the financial and legal aspects of Algaewheel.
